Cristiano Ronaldo
Biography
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, into a working-class family. From a young age, his obsession with football and his extraordinary work ethic set him apart. He joined Sporting CP's academy at 12, and after an impressive pre-season display, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson signed him for Β£12.24 million in 2003.
At Manchester United, Ronaldo transformed from a skilful but inconsistent winger into one of the most feared forwards in the world. His pace, aerial ability, power, and lethal finishing β combined with his renowned dedication to physical conditioning β earned him his first Ballon d'Or in 2008 and Champions League glory.
His nine years at Real Madrid (2009β2018) were the most prolific of his career. He scored 450 goals in 438 appearances and won four Champions League titles and four Ballon d'Or awards. His rivalry with Lionel Messi over two decades pushed both men to previously unimaginable heights.
With Portugal, Ronaldo won the 2016 UEFA European Championship (though he was forced off injured in the final) and the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019. He holds the record for the most goals in international football, surpassing 130 by 2024. Even in the twilight of his career at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, he continues to set scoring records.
